About us
The Institute of Mathematics is a medium-sized institute with around 60 staff members and is characterised by flat hierarchies and a relaxed working atmosphere. Various research areas are represented by the departments of Analysis, Algebra, Stochastics and Mathematics Education. The successful candidate will be a member of the Computer Algebra research group, which is part of the Algebra department.
Your responsibilities
- Research in the field of algebraic geometry with a focus on singularities
- Contributing to the Institute’s teaching activities, particularly in the field of Algebra,
- in supervising students, in examinations, in guiding and advising tutors, and in self-governance
- Active participation in the Algebra research groups
- The teaching load is determined in accordance with the LVVO
Your profile
Requirements / Recruitment criteria
- a university degree (Diplom (Uni)/Master’s) in Mathematics with a specialisation in Algebra/Algebraic Geometry, completed with a grade of at least ‘good’
- Good knowledge of commutative algebra, algebraic geometry and locally analytic geometry
- solid experience in using OSCAR and/or Julia for problems in algebraic geometry and commutative algebra
- Good written and spoken German and English
Desirable / An advantage
- Experience in the study of singularities, particularly in low dimensions, using tools from commutative algebra
- Initial experience in an international environment
- some experience in university teaching (e.g. as a tutor)
- some experience with the organisational structures of a university
