Asche Collection
Prof. Kurt Asche, whose work’s main focus was the history of architecture, donated his collection of architectural drawings of buildings in the city of Oldenburg and Germany’s northwestern region to the University Library. The large-format drawings and sketches document a large number of public and private buildings. Another focus of the collection is on drawings and designs by Peter Behrens (1869–1940), architect, painter and industrial designer. The co-founder of the “Deutsche Werkbund”, the German association of artists, architects, designers, and industrialists founded in 1907, is considered the inventor of what today is called “corporate design”. Behrens was responsible for the conceptual design of the “Oldenburger Landesausstellung” of 1905, and the Asche Collection contains numerous drawings and designs for this exhibition.
