A delegation of five scientists from the ICBM working group Marine Sensor Systems attended the Oceans ‘17 conference (60th OCEANS conference) in Aberdeen, Great Britain from 19th June to 22nd June 2017 (for more information see: OCEANS17). OCEANS ‘17 is a conference with about 500 participants presenting their papers, submitted beforehand. The diversity of 12 parallel sessions over two full days ranged from technical sessions, modelling sessions, show cases up to application examples presented in 15-minute talks plus 5 minutes of discussion.

The Presentations of the German delegation were given in five different sessions: Nick Ruessmeier presented “Ocean surface water currents by large-scale particle image velocimetry technique”, while Oliver Ferdinand talked about “Next generation fluorescence sensors with multiple excitation and emission wavelengths – NeXOS MatrixFlu-UV”, Veloisa Mascarenhas, as a session chair, gave her talk about “Spectral inherent and apparent optical properties on Sognefjord and Trondheimfjord, Norway”, Anna Friedrichs showed her presentation about “SmartFluo goes FDOM: Advancement of the DIY fluorometer approach towards UV excitation” and Michaela Gerriets as co-session chair spoke about “APMOS: An autonomous profiling measurement system for the ocean surface boundary layer”.

Besides the vast amount of presentations given also a small exhibition took place in order to get into contact with other institutes, sensor developers and companies. The whole programme was completed by a great Grand Scottish Ceilidh and a delicious banquet, followed by traditional Scottish dancing with the chance for congress participants to join in.
