Important information on internet use
This website provides information on what you need to bear in mind when using the internet. "Use" can include, for example, surfing the internet, uploading and downloading files or using email, but also the operation of web servers or the provision of websites on the university's servers.
General information
Any use of the internet entails a responsibility on the part of the user. This applies to students as well as to teaching staff and university staff. In order to regulate such use and the associated responsibilities, the University Senate adopted two codes of use (covering official and private use), which have been in force since their publication as Official Notices (25 July 2002). Please read the regulations carefully.
Specific information on the provision of information on websites
We would like to draw your attention specifically to certain aspects of the regulations here.
Particularly with regard to active use in the sense of providing information on the internet (e.g. one’s own work-related or personal websites), there are now a number of rules that must be strictly observed in order to avoid breaching applicable law.
- Obligation to provide identification details
Every website, including personal ones, must display a legal notice (Impressum) identifying the person responsible.
>> Regulations for Private Use, Section 5.3
For work-related websites, the relevant person must be named in the bottom right-hand corner, with a reference to their email address or website, which is then responsible in accordance with the university’s general legal notice.
These measures comply with the Teleservices Act (TDG), which has been in force since 1 January 2002.
- For official websites: mandatory layout
The design of official websites must be adapted to the university’s official website layout, which is provided centrally.
>> Regulations for Official Use, Section 2.2
Note: The layout for university websites, which is based on the university’s corporate design, is automatically generated by the content management system used. It offers various options for a more individual visual design of websites within a university-wide design framework.
