About us

The newly funded Cluster of Excellence NaviSense is a collaborative, interdisciplinary research project hosted at the University of Oldenburg. In NaviSense, we study the senses and mechanisms used by animals to navigate, and how these mechanisms can inspire technology and impact society, ecology, and biodiversity. A diverse and international team of scientists from biology, physics, chemistry, computer sciences and social sciences is involved. Your tasks

The position involves handling all IT administrative tasks within the Cluster of Excellence and supporting its members in their day-to-day use of the IT infrastructure and the storage of research data.

The tasks include in particular:

  • Administration of the Cluster of Excellence’s PC systems (Windows, Linux, iOS) 
  • Installation, configuration and maintenance of operating systems, software packages and applications
  • Supporting members of the Cluster of Excellence with IT issues and resolving them, where necessary in collaboration with the UOL’s IT services
  • Monitoring and assisting with data backup in DARE (institutional research data repository) 
  • Designing and maintaining the website
  • Creating and maintaining documentation

Your profile

Required qualifications:

  • a completed apprenticeship as an IT specialist, IT systems electronics technician or (state-certified technical) assistant in computer science or a college degree (Bachelor's /Master's/ Dipl.-Ing. (FH)), preferably in (Business) Information Technology or Applied Computer Science
  • Experience working as an IT administrator
  • Knowledge of system administration
  • Knowledge of Windows, Linux and iOS
  • Proficiency in German and English

Preferable/Desirable:

  • Knowledge of IT networks
  • Experience in providing user support
  • Website architecture 
  • Knowledge of university structures
  • Experience of working in international teams
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • The ability to work independently, with a focus on solutions and customer service
  • Organisational skills, reliability and commitment
