Institute of Music

Around 400 students study teaching, musicology or integrated media at the Institute of Music. Musical practice, research and social responsibility are combined here - with the aim of conveying music as a living and accessible cultural asset and optimally preparing students for a wide range of academic appointments.

Our approach

  • We represent a broad spectrum of musical life. This includes European and non-European music cultures, popular music, new music, current trends and music technology.
  • We educate students through a wide range of courses with many practical elements (individual lessons, ensembles, workshops, etc.).
  • We realise academic research at the highest theoretical and methodological level.
  • We maintain a constructive and respectful relationship between all students, staff and members of the Institute and encourage student participation in all important matters concerning the Institute.
  • We cooperate with schools, research institutions and cultural organisations in the city and region and maintain international and intercultural exchange relationships.
