Lars Oberhaus studied school music, piano and philosophy at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, Paderborn and Essen. He has won several prizes at piano and chamber music competitions and has taken part in various masterclasses (including with Thomas Quasthoff). As a keyboardist, he has played in various regional bands, most notably with the funk band "Cháque". With the help of a scholarship, he completed his doctorate with a thesis on "Music as the realisation of corporeality". He then completed his traineeship in Marburg/Treysa, worked as a teacher at the Schiller-Gymnasium in Hameln and was awarded 2nd prize in the International Music Education Competition for his work "Lichtmalen - Musik beleuchtet". While working as a junior professor of music and its didactics in Weingarten (2007), Lars Oberhaus headed the Centre for School Development and Professionalisation. He has been working as a professor of music education at the University of Oldenburg since 2012. His current research focus is on the philosophy of music education, music education memory culture(s), didactics of film music as well as music & body and early childhood music education. Lars Oberhaus is a board member of the Bundesverband Musikunterricht Niedersachsen (BMU) and active in the Wissenschaftliche Sozietät Musikpädagogik (WSMP).
