Before the winter semester started, the PPRE staff decided to share some time together by doing a very typical northern German activity: a Wattwanderung. This is called mudflat hiking in English and it means that, during the period of low water, people walk between the continental land and an island, or sometimes between islands. This is possible because of the tides, which are especially low in this area. Mudflat hiking can only be enjoyed in the Netherlands, northwest Germany, Denmark, England and France.
The PPRE staff started in Cuxhaven and walked to the nearby island Neuwerk. It was a very nice experience to practice as a group. The activity was guided by Sandra Schwerz, who grew up in the area and also used to work at the PPRE office in the past. At the end of the walk, the staff shared some traditional northern food on the island and came back to Cuxhaven with the ferry.
