The SEEDexchange project continues to build bridges across continents!
Funded by the DAAD and hosted by the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Ghana, partners from Germany, Colombia, and Africa came together to advance open energy modelling and strengthen collaboration in sustainable energy education.
As part of the tri-national DAAD-funded cooperation project SEEDexchange, an international workshop was held in Ghana, accompanied by an additional alumni project on Open Energy Modelling. The event brought together participants from three continents to exchange experiences and insights on achieving a sustainable and socially owned energy supply in diverse contexts, while fostering collaboration through higher education and transdisciplinary engagement.
Hosted by Professor Samuel Gyamfi’s group at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani, Ghana, the workshop was co-organised with partners from Dr. Edwin Chica’s team at the University of Antioquia (Colombia) and Claudio Madaune from the NGO Change the World – Colombia. Together, the teams discussed progress on institutional and teaching exchanges between universities, as well as updates on the development of the Living Lab and Remote Lab within the SEEDexchange framework.
The partnership continues to grow into a vibrant international network, now further strengthened by active DAAD alumni. During the visit, the group was warmly received by the DAAD Ghana office, where Lena Neumer joined the workshop discussions on future funding opportunities.
The event also welcomed numerous regional DAAD alumni representing countries across Africa—including Seth Agbeve, Hiwote Teshome, Alemayehu Zeleke, Walter Kipruto, Almas Sendegeya, Arthur Mukasa, Miria Frances, Ronald Ketter, Sesilia Iileka, Musa Mzumbe, Henry Wasajja, Johnmary Migadde, Jacob Junior Owusu, and Osayande Omokaro—who enriched the exchange with their diverse expertise and local perspectives.
A special acknowledgement goes to Wisdom Ahiataku Togobo, coordinating consultant and energy expert with extensive experience in Ghana’s renewable energy sector, including with Bui Power Authority and Volta River Authority, for his valuable support and insights.
The SEEDexchange team looks forward to deepening these collaborations and developing new joint projects inspired by this fruitful international experience.
