A preview of the TdLL on Thursday, 29 October 2026: Educating the Heart – Shaping Teaching with Mind and Emotion, lunchtime meeting with Prof. Dr Andrea Strübind, Vice-President for Studies and Teaching

The ninth Day of Teaching and Learning – TdLL for short – will focus on empathy, support, and shifting perspectives. In view of the polarization of social and political debates and students’ diverse living and learning realities, we want to search for new forms of encounters, listening, and opportunities for shaping the processes of teaching and learning collaboratively. The aim is to create teaching that fosters skills whilst simultaneously strengthening human connections.

Together, we would like to ask:

  • How can higher education teaching be designed to foster empathy and adopt different perspectives?
  • How can lecturers and students work together to createlearning environments that do more than just impart knowledge and foster mutual understanding, appreciation and trust?
  • Which specific formats and methods facilitate dialogical and collaborative learning processes?
  • What do lecturers and students need in order to foster an empathic, supportive atmosphere at our university?
  • How can we take into account the diverse life and learning experiences of students when designing teaching?
