About us
The C3L - Center for Lifelong Learning has been the University of Oldenburg's academic center for continuing education for almost 20 years since its formation in 2006. Having opened the university to all those interested in further education, we now welcome some 2,000 people annually who attend our programs and make use of our own bespoke digital learning world. We research and continuously develop innovative formats for teaching and for effective learning with a lasting value.
Part-time study programs
The University of Oldenburg was a pioneer in Germany’s higher education sector to offer part-time degree courses. A signature feature of our Bachelor's and Master's courses has always been personal interaction in small study groups. We combine flexible remote teaching formats with intensive in-class sessions on our Lifelong Learning Campus.
Academic further education
Like our degree programs, the continuing education courses combine state-of-the-art scientific developments with real-life applications. Each semester, we offer around 50 programs at university level. Some of the continuing education certificates can be credited towards a subsequent degree course.
Open university
We are addressing literally everyone interested in education and academics. For more than 40 years, extramural guest students have been able to attend our courses. In addition to that, we run the “KinderUni”, a program designed to introduce children to scientific topics at an early age. With the recognition and accreditation of skills as well as special programs, we also enable university access for people with a vocational background and for immigrants.
Research and projects
In our projects, we develop specific educational programs and we provide freely accessible teaching and learning materials (OER). In doing so, we bring together technical, methodological and didactic expertise. Our research focuses on educational technologies as well as education management and academia.
