Legal- and Business Languages

The Language Centre offers legal and business language courses for students of School II in English, French and Spanish. Before attending any course, a placement test must be taken at the Language Centre.

wir933 Legal and Business Language: English I

Course description English for the workplace - Business English is one of the core skills in our globalised professional world. Building on the English skills acquired at school, the focus here is on communication in typical study and work situations, e.g. presenting in English, writing reports, telephoning, e-mail communication. In addition to the linguistic differences, the cultural differences between Germany and English-speaking countries are also taken into account. The aim of the course is to develop English language skills in the area of business English in order to be able to participate successfully in English-language courses during studies in Oldenburg, to be able to follow the subject-related studies in English in a later semester abroad and to be able to take examinations there, as well as to be able to master international situations confidently in later professional life.

Course description This advanced business English course emphasises intensive expansion of technical and professional vocabulary and practical application through extensive speaking practice and writing activities. The first part of the course covers business topics such as corporate strategy, marketing, distribution, accounting and finance. This is followed by an in-depth discussion of effective communication skills. Here, participants learn how to build an argument, use English in a social context, create effective presentations and how to express themselves clearly in writing.

wir934 Legal and Business Language: French I

Course description This course has a duration of 56 teaching hours; 6 credit points are awarded for successful participation*. Target group This course is aimed at students of Faculty II in the fields of economics and law with an intermediate knowledge of French (approx. 3 to 5 years of French at school) who have either - successfully completed the language certificate "DELF B1" - or the module "French Advanced Module 2" or "French Advanced Module 1" of the Language Centre, - or have taken part in a counselling interview and placement test at the Language Centre. The course serves as preparation for subject-related short stays, study semesters with ERASMUS+ and/or internships in France. Ce cours prépare à de courts séjours spécifiques, un semestre universitaire ERASMUS+ et /ou à des stages en France. Course content: Acquérir des savoirs et savoir-faire concernant l'entreprise et son environnement (l'état et l'économie francaises, les secteurs d'activité en France et les relations sociales) ainsi que l'entreprise et son marché (marketing d'un produit) The following topics will be covered: Learning and studying in the French education system, jobs and internships in the French working world. Structures and development opportunities in business start-ups/, Conflicts between employees and employers/ Economy and environment/ How to apply for a job in France?/ Advertising and sales strategies. Working materials : - will be discussed with the teacher at the beginning of the semester. Course description This course has a duration of 56 teaching hours; 6 credit points are awarded for successful participation*. Target group: This course is aimed at students of Faculty II in the fields of economics and law with a good knowledge of French (approx. 5-7 years of French at school) who have either: - acquired DELF B1 or DELF B2", or the module "French preparation for DELF B2" or immersion module 2" of the Language Centre of the University, - or have successfully completed the module "Business French 1", - or have taken part in a counselling interview and a placement test at the Language Centre. This course serves as preparation for longer study and research stays, qualified professional internships in France and the Francophone world. This course is especially recommended for participants of the German-French double Bachelor's programmes and Master's students who will communicate exclusively in French during an ERASMUS+ stay or who would like to work in France or with international organisations after their studies. Ce cours prépare à des séjours d'études ou de recherche de longue durée , à des stages qualifiés en France et/ou en Francophonie. It is particularly addressed to students of double degree programmes (Bachelor and Master) who, within the framework of their studies and/or ERASMUS+, need to communicate only in French during their stay and/or wish to work in France, in French-speaking countries or in international organisations after their studies. Course content: study at French universities/research at French institutes/work for French companies.
