First alumni event led to new places in medical studies
For the first time, the "fireside chat" of the Alumni Network Human Medicine of the School VI Medicine and Health Sciences took place on 08 September 2023. The former students - mostly from the first cohort of the degree programme - visited the premises of the Clinical Training Centre (KTZ) in building V02 and the new lecture theatre C002 in building V03 together with the Dean Prof. Hans Gerd Nothwang and the Dean of Studies Prof. Karsten Witt.
This first presence event of the Alumni Network was intended to give graduates the opportunity to see places from their studies again and to exchange ideas with the Dean's Office and each other in a relaxed atmosphere. Due to the positive response, there are already plans for further meetings of this kind. The event was supported by the association Freunde & Förderer der Universitätsmedizin e. V. (Friends and Sponsors of University Medicine).
The Alumni Network for Human Medicine is still in the process of being set up and we look forward to receiving further registrations:
University Medicine Oldenburg honours its graduates
For the first time since 2019, University Medicine Oldenburg said goodbye to its graduates at a ceremony. In previous years, the event had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. Therefore, the cohorts who have successfully graduated since 2020 until today were invited. These include 57 graduates of Human Medicine, 97 of the Master's programme in Neurocognitive Psychology and 6 of the Master's programme in Molecular Biomedicine, which has only been offered since 2020. In addition, 81 graduates completed their doctorate at School VI in the aforementioned period, and 11 habilitated.
"The graduates we are saying goodbye to today have earned their degrees under difficult pandemic conditions. In addition to their professional knowledge, they have demonstrated flexibility, adaptability and perseverance. They can be proud of this," said Dean Prof. Dr. Hans Gerd Nothwang.
A total of around 180 guests accepted the invitation to the ceremony. The keynote speech was given by psychologist Prof. Dr. Anne Schacht from Göttingen University. She spoke on the topic: "Per aspera ad astra? Studying and researching in the context of global crises."
Together with the Friends and Sponsors of University Medicine Northwest, the School also awarded the Hermine Heusler-Edenhuizen Prize to two prize winners.
