New DLR-Institute of Systems Engineering for Future Mobility established in Oldenburg

The New DLR-Institute of Systems Engineering for Future Mobility was officially opened on 31st of January 2023 by the head of DLR and new director of the institute, namely Prof. Axel Hahn. It is located close by the OFFIS-Institute in Escherweg, Oldenburg.

Developing and safeguarding automated and autonomous transportation systems of tomorrow is an essential building block for shaping the future. This requires new efficient systems engineering methods and tools. They enable the proof of functionality (verification) and practicality (validation) as well as the further development of trustworthy systems for autonomous driving in the automotive, marine, rail and aviation sectors. To strengthen research and development in this area, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) has founded the Institute for Systems Engineering for Future Mobility. The DLR institute was officially opened in Oldenburg on January 31, 2023.

"The Institute for Systems Engineering for Future Mobility develops methods to efficiently develop and test complex systems. This research is elementary for the safety and approval of highly automated and autonomous means of transport," emphasizes Prof. Dr.-Ing. Anke Kaysser-Pyzalla, Chair of the DLR Executive Board. "The scientific work and competencies of the new institute ideally complement DLR's interdisciplinary and application-oriented research, especially in the field of shipping."
