EUREC Alumni embark on Renewable Energy Journey: From Rotor Design to Wind Farm Exploration.

In a remarkable showcase of their expertise and dedication to renewable energy, the students of the European Renewable Energy Research Centres (EUREC) Masters program have recently embarked on a transformative journey that encompassed both the design and construction of a wooden rotor and an awe-inspiring visit to Greece's iconic Agios Georgos Wind Farm. These two stories highlight the students' ingenuity, practical skills, and commitment to pushing the boundaries of sustainable power generation.

The first story takes us into the realm of rotor design and construction. Guided by their extensive knowledge and training, the students embarked on the meticulous process of designing and optimizing the airfoil, a critical component of the wind turbine rotor. Leveraging cutting-edge techniques and their expertise acquired through the EUREC Masters program, the students devoted themselves to creating an airfoil that would maximize the turbine's efficiency and performance. The construction phase saw the students fabricate four wooden blades, showcasing their meticulous craftsmanship and commitment to ensuring the success of the project. Through the assembly of the blades onto the hub and the careful balancing of the rotor, the students demonstrated their attention to detail and precision in engineering. The experiment culminated with tests conducted in the wind tunnel of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), where the students obtained essential Cp-TSR values for different wind speeds.
