Erasmus+ funding

Student mobility for studies (SMS)

Financial support for students studying abroad within the Erasmus+ programme is based on the different living costs in the programme countries. Starting from 2022, the following minimum student mobility for studies (SMS) grants will apply across Europe for the three programme country groups:

  • Group 1 (EUR 600 per month): Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom.
  • Group 2 (EUR 540 per month): Belgium, Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus.
  • Group 3 (EUR 490 per month): Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary.

Time spent studying abroad may also include Zero Grant periods. This means time spent studying abroad without receiving Eramus+ funding while maintaining Erasmus status. For more information on Erasmus+ funding for studying abroad, please contact the International Office.

Top-up amount for students with fewer opportunities (beginning with Erasmus project 2022):
Students with a chronic illness (see RKI website) or a degree of disability of at least 20% can apply for a monthly top-up of 250 EUR. Alternatively, it is possible to apply to the National Erasmus Agency for funding of the real costs (so called "long application"). Students going abroad with child(ren), first-time academics as well as students who had a job subject to social security contributions for at least 6 months prior to their mobility abroad and earned more than 450 EUR and less than 850 EUR per month can also apply for the social top-up. More detailed information can be found here.

Top-up for green travel:
For "green travel" to the host university and back, a one-time grant of one-off payment of 100 EUR and an allowance for up to four days of travel is provided. Students who travel to the host university mainly on foot (hiking) or by bicycle will receive a one-off grant of up to 350 EUR. For further information please click here

Erasmus+ special funds

Special funding is available to enable students with disabilities (degree of disability of 20% or more,  50% or more for the comprehensive application) and students with child(ren) to realise the Erasmus+ stay abroad.
