The final preparations are underway - the lighting concept is in place, music, buffet and cocktails have been organised. To mark its 50th anniversary, the library will be transformed into a ballroom on 27 April. For one evening, around 700 guests will have the opportunity to dance and celebrate among two million books and media.

During the breaks, three dance couples from the Tanz-Turnier-Club Oldenburg will show off their skills: Mirko Klemmt and Anna Olliges, Thomas and Julia Löw as well as Ben Kamphausen and Meret Preuß - students and employees of the university - whirl around the dance floor in their show outfits.

Admission starts at 6.00 pm. Between 18.45 and 22.00, guests can enjoy a varied finger food buffet. At around 7.00 pm, University President Prof. Dr Ralph Bruder and Library Director Heike Andermann will officially open the sold-out event.

Live music with a big band sound will encourage dancing that evening: the renowned dance orchestra Pik10 will cover a musical spectrum ranging from dance music classics to rock and disco highlights from the 1970s, 80s and 90s to current hits. From midnight onwards, DJ Norman Harms will continue the night's music.

The first event of this kind took place on campus in 1986, a ball evening to mark German Librarians' Day. Several library balls followed, the last one in 2014. After ten years, there is now a new edition - with a different concept, as the name suggests: the former library ball becomes the library dance.
