Half a century ago, on 5 December 1973, the decision of the Lower Saxony state parliament to found the University of Oldenburg came into force, iIn April '74, the university opened its doors. Since then, Carl von Ossietzky University has characterised the city and region in many waysis strong in interdisciplinary research and teaching and assumes social responsibility.
