Future Lab Health

Motivation and Research objectives

Medical research and health care are facing a fundamental change due to increasing digitalisation. Advances in sensor technology and imaging - both in everyday clinical practice and in the private environment - provide new types of health-related data. The application of new data analysis technologies to these large amounts of data enables new approaches to understand and treat complex diseases.

Central aspects for the work of the Zukunftslabor Gesundheit are the use of new digital methods in care and nursing, evidence- and data-based medicine, the design of health-promoting living environments, personalised medicine and comprehensive health care research along the entire care chain.

Approach

In addition to the development of new data analysis technologies, the Department of Assistance Systems and Medical Device Technology is investigating nursing procedures and the use of technologies with regard to their suitability for the evaluation of postures, movements and actions in outpatient care. For example, harmful strain can be detected and diseases of the musculoskeletal system can be prevented in both professional and informal caregivers.

In addition, semi-automatic nursing documentation as a quality assurance measure as well as automatic reminders of upcoming nursing activities (e.g. decubitus prophylaxis) can be realized, provided that nursing activities can be identified on the basis of the movements and the kinematic chain.

Cooperations / Funding

Funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and within the Lower Saxony “Vorab“ of the Volkswagen Foundation and supported by the Center for Digital Innovations (ZDIN).
