Film and Lecture Series
Institute of Cultural Studies at the
University of Oldenburg
November 2009 – January 2010
In the Year of Science, the Institute for Cultural Studies, in collaboration with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies (ZFG), is placing a special focus on female academics.
Over the course of several evenings, feature, experimental and silent films will be screened, introduced and discussed, exploring the fascinating interplay between gender and science. At various venues across the city (the university, a cinema, a museum), films about various (historical) female researchers – such as the mathematician and pioneering programmer Ada Countess Lovelace (also known as Ada King), as well as films about female astronauts (in the silent film *Woman in the Moon*) or literary scholars (in the feature film *Heller Wahn*) – accompanied by a lecture on science and cultural policy.
Concept and organisation: Prof. Dr Barbara Paul and Kea Wienand, M.A., Institute for Cultural Studies, School III, University of Oldenburg,
in collaboration with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies (ZFG) at the University of Oldenburg, the Edith-Ruß-Haus for Media Art and the Casablanca cinema.
