Prof Dr Ralph Bruder
Ralph Bruder has been President of the University of Oldenburg since 1 August.
He studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt, where he also gained his doctorate in 1992 and taught and researched as a research assistant. In 1996, he accepted an appointment at the University of Duisburg-Essen. There, he was a university professor for the subject of ergonomics in design until 2005 and head of the Institute for Ergonomics and Design Research, which he founded. He was also the founding president and, until 2006, managing director of the Zollverein School of Management and Design gGmbH.
In 2006, Ralph Bruder returned to TU Darmstadt as Professor of Ergonomics and Head of the Institute of the same name. As Scientific Director, he established an umbrella organisation for early career researchers. From 2014 to 2019, he was the full-time Vice President responsible for studies, teaching and early career researchers.
Ralph Bruder was, among other things, Chair of the Society for Occupational Science and is currently Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and a member of numerous other professional bodies. He was also co-editor of the journal Applied Ergonomics and a member of the scientific advisory boards of several national and international journals.
