More than 50 apprentices are employed at the university. At the weekend, they will be presenting their professional fields and training content together with their trainers.

Engine models, a sewing machine, a reciprocating saw, a wired greenhouse - there is plenty to marvel at and touch at the university's stand at the Job4u youth fair. The trainees in the university's workshops and laboratories use these objects in their everyday lives - or have developed them in their final theses. This year, the trainees are also inviting visitors to join in: Anyone who wants to can pave with mosaic stones like a landscape gardener or operate a model of a wind turbine that the electronics workshop and mechanical workshops have developed together. The system electronics technicians and IT specialists in system integration will also be presenting current projects. Most people realise that not only scientists work at a university, but also employees in administration and for the technical infrastructure. However, the fact that many academic appointments can also be learnt at universities seems to surprise many. In the workshops, laboratories, library and central administration offices, the University of Oldenburg offers training in ten academic appointments, ranging from chemical laboratory technician to media designer to administrative assistant. As one of the largest employers in the region, it takes responsibility for young people starting their careers and at the same time trains the employees of tomorrow. Committed trainers introduce the trainees to the academic appointments in a varied and practical way - with many insights into the world of science. Vocational schools teach the theoretical basics.

This year marks the sixth time that the university has taken part in the "Job4u" fair: for the past three years, it has had its own stand, which this year is almost twice as large as last year. The careers fair takes place every autumn. Pupils can find out about job profiles, training companies and universities from companies in the region. In addition to direct contact with companies, they can also talk to trainees from the various academic appointments at the fair. Parents can also find out about the opportunities and prospects for their children.
