Sustainability-oriented Governance of Global Supply Chains
Sustainability-oriented Governance of Global Supply Chains
The project, “Nachhaltigkeitsgovernance globaler Wertschöpfungsketten” (Sustainability-oriented Governance of Global Supply Chains), is funded by the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony within the funding program “Wissenschaftsräume” für Niedersachsen.
The project brings together collaborators from the University of Oldenburg, Leuphana University in Lüneburg, the University of Osnabrück, and the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (Hamburg).
This project aims to investigate the actual and potential impacts of supply chain laws and related governance initiatives in promoting the transformation of global supply chains toward sustainability. Specifically, it seeks to understand the impacts, potentials, and limitations of public and private governance schemes for sustainability in supply chains, especially those extending to the global South. This involves examining the effects of mandatory regulations in conjunction with private-sector initiatives and considering key actors such as the state, businesses (including auditing organizations), and civil society. The interdisciplinary consortium leverages perspectives from political science, law, economics, geography, and development cooperation.
