On 25 and 26 September 2025, the 25th North German Doctoral Candidates Colloquium in Chemistry (NDDK) took place at the Department of Chemistry at University of Hamburg. This supra-regional meeting has been the perfect platform for close personal and scientific exchange between university working groups, research institutes and industrial companies in northern Germany for many years. The founding father of this conference in 1998 was Prof Jürgen Heck, who celebrated his own 75th birthday at the same time as the 25th anniversary of the NDDK. With more than 130 participants from 30 research groups and 15 research institutions as well as 25 specialist presentations and 40 posters, the 25th NDDK was a complete success. The focus was on young doctoral researchers, who discussed their latest scientific findings and engaged in close dialogue with their colleagues from neighbouring universities in northern Germany.
