Sound Source Localization

Bild

The localization of acoustic sound sources can be done in various ways. One is the estimation of the direction of arrival from a source to a sensor array which consists at least of two sensors. The inputs of the sensors are compared to each other, e.g. by computing the cross-correlation function between the impinging sound signals. The relative delay between the sensors is indicated by the psotion of maximum of the cross-correlation function. By this means the angular position of one or more sound sources can be determined within a single time frame of a few milliseconds length.
