Orientation and Goals
Sustainable Marine and Coastal Management is an interdisciplinary, practice-oriented degree programme. During their studies, students acquire comprehensive and scientifically sound knowledge and skills in the management of the marine and coastal environments, as well as inland river basins. They acquire and strengthen their skills in analysis, monitoring and decision support. In addition, students gain in-depth knowledge in the fields of environmental and spatial planning, which is taught in Groningen during the second year. They thus contribute to the sustainable management of coastal and marine areas, taking into account ecological, social and economic objectives. Upon successful completion of the Master’s programme, they will have acquired the ability to conduct scientific research and will be capable of solving complex tasks in environmental management within a constantly evolving professional field. Furthermore, graduates will be able to communicate their knowledge and research findings to both experts and non-specialists in a manner tailored to the audience.
