Teaching profile
The School’s teaching profile is research-oriented and has an international focus. Alongside specialised training, teacher training plays a central role. Both areas are currently being further developed through externally funded projects as part of the Quality Pact for Teaching. Teaching at School IV is fundamentally guided by the University of Oldenburg’s teaching mission statement (https://uol.de/leitbild-lehre).
Key prerequisites for research and teaching at School IV include academic excellence, interdisciplinary and international collaboration, and the complementary unity of research and teaching: research communicates its arguments and teaches how to recognise; learning, at the same time, means questioning. The knowledge and skills acquired during the degree programme, as well as subject-specific critical attitudes, are relevant – both theoretically and methodologically as well as in practical terms – for future professional life across various fields of work. This practical relevance always presupposes critical reflection on those fields.
The School supports the implementation and further development of the University of Oldenburg’s teaching profile, particularly in the areas of teacher training, research-based learning and the internationalisation of research-oriented teaching.
