Helene Lange Research School for Early-Career Female Researchers

The focus of this transdisciplinary research training group is the construction and expression of national, regional and social identity amongst young adults (aged between 17 and 25) in a sub-region of the former Soviet sphere of influence today, 20 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The central research question is how this generation – the first to have been socialised entirely within a self-governing and independent state and under conditions of transformation – navigates its identity within this complex context, which is shaped by trends towards globalisation and liberalisation as well as by phenomena of retotalisation.
