TrinkWave Transfer

Large-scale testing of new developments in sequential managed aquifer recharge

Project summary

Building on many years of experience in groundwater management and bank filtration in Germany, a key objective of the TrinkWave collaborative project was to develop new multi-barrier treatment processes for water reuse to support drinking water resources. The central technology element of this concept is Sequential Managed Aquifer Recharge Technology (SMART). Building on previous experience, the TrinkWave Transfer joint project is now testing the large-scale application of the SMART process, particularly in its optimized form with integrated seepage trench technology and active hydrological control of the subsurface flow and reactive transport. Investigations on scalability under real operating conditions are necessary to prove the performance of the process and to secure future investments of potential users.
