On September 27th the travelling exhibition Ocean Plastics Lab has been inaugurated by the German Federal Minister of Education and Research, Johanna Wanka, EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, and President of the Regional Council of Piedmont, Mauro Laus. The ICBM made several contributions to the content of the exhibition, such as a video interview of ICBM professor Jörg-Olaf Wolff, further video material, texts and pictures. The Ocean Plastics Lab comprises exhibits and contributions from over 50 partners from 5 continents. Next stop on the exhibition’s tour will be Paris from 4-17 November 2017.

The exhibition has been initiated by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research together with the German Marine Research Consortium and international partners from policy and science. The exhibits encompass interactive installations, displays and animations on loan from laboratories, research institutes and various other science and civil society partners worldwide.

Up to Oktober 7th about 5.700 interested citizens have been visiting the Ocean Plastics Lab on Piazza Solferino in the centre of Turin and informing themselves on how science contributes to understand and combat the problem of plastics in the oceans. For 2018 and beyond, the exhibition makers are planning further stops in Brussels, Washington D.C., Berlin and many other destinations.
