Analytic Infrastructure
The Research Group for Marine Geochemistry owns an ultrahigh-resolution mass spectrometer (Bruker Solarix 15 Tesla FT-ICR-MS) as well as different state-of-the art high performance liquid chromatographs (Waters Aquity UPLC™, Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ ICS-5000 with amperometric detector) and an element analyzer for aqueous samples (Shimadzu TOC/TN Analyzer).
The analytic equipment serves the following purposes:
- FT-ICR-MS (Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer): Determination of the molecular formula of individual molecules in complex organic mixtures, which cannot be analysed by conventional methods.
- UPLC (Ultra performance liquid chromatography): Determination of lignin phenols, benzene poly carboxylic acids and amino acids.
- ICS-5000 (Ion Chromatography System): Determination of carbohydrate monomers.
- TOC/TN Analyzer: Determination of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) in water.
