Intersectional sensitivity

DiZ Research Cluster "Intersectional Sensitivity"

Intersectionality research is based on the premise that historically developed forms of discrimination, power structures, processes of subjectification and social inequalities must be critically analysed in terms of their interdependencies. The critical potential lies in the fact that, by examining several categories of analysis simultaneously, the origins and effects of social practices can be revealed, whilst at the same time exploring possible transformations.

‘Sensitivity’ refers to an attitude and course of action characterised by a perceptive receptiveness to challenges arising from everyday life and a corresponding responsive behaviour. This attitude is characterised, amongst other things, by a context-appropriate perception of situations, an understanding of people and contexts, a keen sense of atmosphere, and the recognition of the other and their life experiences. The aim of research in the field of intersectional sensitivity is to foster a sensitive yet critical perspective on intersectional challenges and on potential productive starting points for change.

The cluster focuses on interdisciplinary, education-related research in special education, music education, material culture (particularly textile didactics) and philosophy. The research is oriented towards theoretical-conceptual, empirical and methodological questions.

  • Formally: an interdisciplinary approach to a current research topic by experts in various fields of research
  • In terms of content: intersections of structures of discrimination, social power relations, the relationship between pluralism and the subject, and the problem of the attribution of categories
  • Infrastructure:
    • Networking between the various Schools
    • Research colloquium on the topic
    • Setting up and establishing various options for digital communication channels and collections of materials

The research cluster also includes three PhD positions within the Graduate College ‘Teacher Education 2040’
