Our student, Silvia Alejandra Caballero Zafra (SuRE 2023-25), reports on the recent PV excursion to the solar farm at the former air base “Helleheide.”
During our second semester of the Master's degree in Sustainable Renewable Energy Technologies (SuRE), we can choose one of three possible specializations: Wind Energy, Solar Energy or System Integration. I have chosen the Solar/PV specialization and last week, some SuRE students specializing in PV systems, accompanied by our lecturers Dr. M. Knipper and Dr. H. Torio, went on an excursion to the solar farm at the former air base “Helleheide.”
We visited the solar farm and a 175 kWp solar system managed by the neighborhood association. It was fascinating to learn that the implementation of this solar system was carried out by Olegeno, an energy network cooperative composed of over 400 Oldenburg citizens.
Members of this cooperative work together towards achieving a sustainable energy culture and facilitating energy transition in Oldenburg. Their goal is the regional implementation of a decentralized energy transition, contributing to global climate protection.
You can learn more about Olegeno at www.olegeno.de. And why not become part of this admirable initiative to make a small but meaningful difference in the global climate crisis?
