The Souver@n joint project has set itself the goal of strengthening digitalisation in teaching in Higher Education. In our podcast series, members of the Team Communication talk to experts in the field of digital teaching and learning to inform our listeners about the latest developments, best practices and good experiences in this field.

The podcast is aimed at lecturers, staff at central teaching support facilities and students at universities in Lower Saxony - and beyond.

In this episode, Benjamin Angerer from the University of Osnabrück talks about the use of open source software (OSS) at universities and the challenges, concerns and pitfalls that can arise in this context. Using practical examples, he illustrates how OSS can be used profitably by students.

In this episode, Sina Haselmann from the University of Hildesheim talks about the Cu2RVE project, which promotes the training of student teachers in the field of digital skills in order to lay the foundations for successful digitalisation in schools. Using illustrative practical examples, he also discusses the existing systems, their areas of application and how they can be linked.


Episode 7: Feedback and evaluation in digital university teaching

In this episode, Prof. Dr Clemens Hillenbrand from the University of Oldenburg talks about the special features of evaluating digital university teaching compared to analogue teaching. He also reports on the structure and methods of the project ‘Action strategies for heterogeneous classes - quality assurance of OER for teacher training’ and its relation to evaluation. He also explains the possibilities and advantages of quality assurance of digital university teaching in everyday teaching.


Episode 6: Possibilities of digital media in student counselling

In this episode, Dr Attila Kornel-Markula talks about the possibilities and limitations of self-study and what starting points exist for integrating digital media into this form of learning. He also discusses the project ‘Virtually accompanied self-study in the extended educational space’ and the possibilities of integrating students into the central student advisory service.


Episode 5: ‘Pedagotchi’ - Case-based learning in paediatrics

In this episode, Dr Urs Mücke from Hannover Medical School and Prof Lorenz Grigull from the Centre for Rare Diseases at Bonn University Hospital talk about the innovative ‘Pedagotchi’ app, which focuses on case-based learning in paediatrics. They will explain the importance of case-based learning in medical studies and provide insights into the context and usage scenarios of the app and how cases are integrated into the application. They also discuss which playful elements the app contains. In doing so, they emphasise the advantages over conventional face-to-face discussions of clinical cases alone.

In this episode, Lars Kiesow from the University of Osnabrück talks about open source software and its importance for universities. Among other things, he discusses the advantages of OSS over proprietary software, but also identifies the challenges that can arise when using OSS in the university context and what solutions exist.

In this episode, Dr Janine Horn from ELAN e.V. talks about the legal framework for online examinations. In addition to the legal aspects that are relevant in connection with online examinations, Dr Janine Horn also discusses the options that exist to ensure equal opportunities and prevent cheating.


Episode 2: Digitally supported teaching

In this episode, Prof Dr Michael Brinkmeier from the University of Osnabrück talks about the potential of using modern technologies to make the learning process more effective and interactive. In addition, trends and developments in teaching, challenges in the introduction of digital teaching and the responsibility of teaching to prepare students for a digital society are highlighted.

In this episode, Dr Julia Webersik from the University of Lüneburg and Dr Andreas Knaden from the University of Osnabrück talk about the advantages of sovereign digitally supported teaching, the special features of the SOUVER@N project as a joint project and the wishes, goals and plans that exist with regard to SOUVER@N.
