About us
University teaching methodology
The role of the Higher Education Pedagogy Unit is to promote ‘good teaching’ at the University of Oldenburg and to support university lecturers in their role as teachers and in their teaching activities. By ‘good teaching’, the university means a shift in learning culture towards learner-centred and research-based teaching and learning formats.
In organisational terms, the Higher Education Didactics Unit reports to the Department for Study Affairs and to the office of the Vice-President for Studies, Teaching and International Affairs.
Developing and enhancing teaching skills: Our professional development programme for teachers
For teaching staff, we offer workshops on university teaching methodology as part of the ‘ University Teaching Qualification’ certificate programme . Teachers can complete the entire certificate programme or, by attending individual workshop seminars, further develop their teaching skills in a targeted manner and as required. The “Higher Education Teaching Qualification” certificate programme is offered in co-operation with the Universities of Bremen and Osnabrück, as well as the Centre of Excellence for Higher Education Teaching in Lower Saxony at the Technical University of Braunschweig. The programme is accredited by the German Society for Higher Education Didactics (dghd).
In addition, further events on higher education didactics are open to teaching staff; these are offered on an irregular basis or in response to current issues (for example, the ‘Higher Education Didactics Compact’ series). As well as imparting knowledge and developing skills, a key aim of these higher education didactics events is always to encourage dialogue amongst teaching staff and to provide a space for discussion.
If you have any questions about the certificate programme or individual events, please do not hesitate to contact us for advice!
Excellence in teaching and learning: The Teaching Prize
For several years now, the University of Oldenburg has been awarding the ‘Teaching Prize’. This recognises teaching staff for outstanding courses, particularly well -structured modules or exceptional commitment. The prize money is funded by the Vice-President for Student Affairs and Teaching and by sponsorship.
Supporting and helping to shape: The Centre for Higher Education Pedagogy
The work of the Higher Education Didactics Research Group is supported by the Centre for Higher Education Didactics, which is made up of lecturers from the Schools.
The role of the lecturers is to critically oversee the content and conceptual planning of higher education didactics training programmes and to act as a source of inspiration. In addition, the Centre contributes to the content and design of the call for entries and the awarding of the Teaching Prize.
Through its co-operation in the certificate programme and its membership of the German Society for Higher Education Didactics (dghd), the University of Oldenburg is linked to other institutions specialising in higher education didactics.
