Teaching

"The aim of teaching at the ICET is to strengthen interdisciplinary research-oriented entrepreneurship education with a focus on social start-up projects and thus to promote research among students and graduates.
Teaching at the ICET should be aimed at students of both economics and technology-oriented courses of study (especially computer science). All courses are not only anchored in practice, but also scientifically based. The aim is to generate scientific output within the courses. The teaching thus contributes to the integration of research between the NMMU and the CvOU. In addition, the challenges of founding a company are addressed. An early bringing together of students from both disciplines promises a demand-oriented and application-oriented transfer of knowledge and creates a basis for the generation of promising start-up ideas with social relevance. The courses are structured as blended learning format (on-site presence phases with lecturers from Oldenburg and e-learning phases accompanied by Oldenburg students/graduates1 as tutors in South Africa). This format promotes an intensive exchange between scientists and graduates/students from Oldenburg and Port Elizabeth.

Research

"The ICET conducts interdisciplinary research with strong social relevance. It attaches great importance to practical relevance and also involves graduates and students in the research."
Research is an essential part of the ICET and the supporting element of the project applied for here. In cooperation with the NMMU, different research areas with technology and entrepreneurship relevance are defined. The research areas will be closely linked to all other measures of ICET. Since the project is to pursue a holistic approach, its results will be incorporated into teaching but also into the operative support of founders within the incubator. Conversely, empirical data, application scenarios or even research work will be generated within the framework of teaching, but also within the incubator. This results in a closed loop of research, teaching and practical implementation, which strengthens both participating universities and their environment.

Incubator

"ICET offers researchers the opportunity to transfer technological innovations to the community and to study social engagement within technology-oriented start-ups in the field. In addition, it also generates social benefits by directly supporting the development and implementation of social projects".
The company incubator ICETprojects provides an operational framework for the scientific projects in the project. In cooperation with the "SEDA Nelson Mandela Bay ICT Incubator", ICETprojects accompanies and supports technology start-ups that generate social added value in townships in all phases of their establishment. In addition, the incubator also supports classical technology start-ups. In addition to an optimal learning and research environment, ICETprojects thus contributes to the activation of the social entrepreneurship scene and to the improvement of equal opportunities and quality of life in the townships of Port Elizabeth. The support activities include workshops for idea development and evaluation, further education and training of potential founders, arrangement of financing as well as infrastructure and continuous consulting.
