When to apply?

Application deadlines

Winter term:

15th June for admission to first semester

  • Applicants with German Bachelor’s degree: the application portal will open in May.
  • International applicants: Application via uni-assist is recommended until 15th of May (since uni-assist needs some time for processing the files), but the deadline 15th June applies to all applicants.

15th July for admission to higher semesters

Summer term:

No admission to first semester

15th January for admission to higher semesters

International applicants

Applicants who have obtained a Bachelor's degree in any other country need to apply via www.uni-assist.de. We strongly recommend that applicants with a degree from abroad submit their documents as early as possible via “uni-assist” and send a copy of their documents (in one PDF file) directly to the program directors (), as the assessment for equivalence of degrees may take extra time. Further information for international students can be obtained at the International Student Office.

Who can apply?

  • Documentation of additional qualifications (Category B) if applicable

 

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in the fields of Neuroscience, Biology or in another related field of the natural sciences and mathematics (e.g., Psychology, Engineering, Informatics). If you are still in the process of completing your degree, at least 150 credit points must be documented.

  • At least 12 credit points must have been obtained in the Neurosciences, and a further 12 credit points in Mathematics, Statistics and/or Programming. Up to 6 credit points in one of these two broad areas (Neurosciences or Mathematics/Statistics/Programming) may be acquired in catch-up courses parallel to the first year of study.

Proof of English proficiency

  •  native speaker OR
  •  high school or Bachelor's degree in English spoken program OR
  •  Language certificate at a minimum level of B2 according to the Common European  Framework of Reference for Languages. All certificates (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS,  Cambridge First Certificate, Language Centers of Universities) which are not older  than 4 years (including "Abitur" at least 10 points in last 2 years of high school

An additional document to be included with your application is the specific eligibility form.

Advantageous qualifications:

The admissions committee evaluates the applicant based on the documents supplied. The specific eligibility determined by a ranking based on the sum of points from categories A and B that are outlined below. If the score is equal, lottery decides the ranking. Admission will be given to the top ranked 25 students.

Further points can be obtained through additional qualifications.

Relevant internships, student assistant position or Bachelor thesis in the Neurosciences, with a minimum duration of 3 months, which is not part of the required 12 ECTS in Neuroscience 0.5 points each / max 1.5 points
scientific publication(s) or award(s) 0.5 points each / max 1.0 points
proof of English proficiency at a level of C1 or higher 1.0 points
Proven previous knowledge in Neuroscience and Statistics / Programming / Mathematics with 12 ECTS or more 0.5 points
Subject-related stay outside your home country, with a minimum duration of one semester 0.5 points
Voluntary social / community work (e.g., council work, family times, “Bundesfreiwilligendienst”), with a minimum duration of 6 months 0.5 points
A minimum of 12 months of relevant professional work experience 0.5 points
