Microbiogeochemistry

Research

The Microbiogeochemistry group (MBG) was established at Oldenburg University in 1992 and started working when the new laboratory and office building was completed in 1994. MBG is specialized in inorganic geochemical analysis of recent and ancient sediments, in waters, soils, and substances of environmental concern.

Inorganic geochemistry deals with the principles of the distribution of elements, including their isotopes, within and on our planet Earth. Microbiochemistry regards itself as an interdisciplinary science with close links to analytical chemistry, organic geochemistry, geology, and (micro)biology. Presently the working group is concentrating on studies in sedimentary and environmental systems by inorganic geochemical methods.
