Focus Embedded Brain Computer Interaction

EngSTS - Study Specialization "Embedded Brain Computer Interaction"

This study specialization gives students theoretical knowledge and practical skills for the design and evaluation of complex technical systems with human and technical actors as well as the use of brain computer interfaces in cyber-physical systems. The curriculum includes basics of system design, neuro-cognitive psychology, signal processing, and a wide variety of application domains that illustrate the generalizability of the content. The specialization combines fundamental knowledge of the basic principles of building and designing complex technical and hybrid human-technology systems (technical and humane sensors, signal processing, regulation, their neural base in humans, architectures, and actuators) with their assessment in terms of safety, availability and performance. The students gain a deep understanding of the problems in the construction of safety-critical human-technology systems and the brain computer interaction. They solve central questions of the realization and evaluation of systems with brain computer interactions in interdisciplinary teams and project groups. For this purpose, laboratories with different methods for the measurement of brain activity (EEG, fNIRS) as well as robotic laboratories and simulators (medicine, automotive and maritime) are avilable which offer different application foci.
