University Clinic for Visceral Surgery

University Clinic for Visceral Surgery

With 2,700 inpatients per year, the University Clinic for Visceral Surgery is one of the largest clinics at Pius Hospital Oldenburg. The clinic covers the entire spectrum of general and visceral surgery, including emergency surgery. Together with the Oldenburg Evangelical Hospital, the University Hospital treats patients in a supraregional trauma center certified by the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU).

The University Hospital's specialties include liver, biliary, pancreatic, abdominothoracic esophageal (esophagus) and gastrointestinal surgery. In addition, the medical team performs more than 500 thyroid surgeries per year. Another focus is rectal surgery, proctology and colorectal surgery (operations on the colon and rectum). Here, the physicians use both conventional surgical procedures and keyhole surgery, for example, in cases of cancer, intestinal obstruction, obstructions or perforations. Any necessary pre- or post-treatment (radiation, chemotherapy) is carried out in close cooperation with the in-house clinic.
