Mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases in Germany

Period: August 2019 – Dezember 2022

Financed by: Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture

Description

The aim of the joint project CuliFo2 is to analyse the risk for mosquito-borne diseases in Germany.

Our research focus is on the ecological factors, which influence the population development of mosquitoes. Thereby, we analyse e.g. the microclimate of larval habitats in order to predict the spatio-temporal development of important vector species. In addition, we investigate the effects of different overwintering conditions on the mortality and fitness of adult mosquitoes. The studies can provide insights to develop efficient control and surveillance measures to minimize the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
