Rohan Manjesh (SuRE 2024-26) from India recently participated in a Studienbegleitprogramm (STUBE) Niedersachsen seminar on sustainable waste and resource management in Goslar. He reports on the seminar, which perfectly aligned with his academic interests and was a truly enriching experience.
From November 22nd–24th, 2024, I had the privilege to attend the Studienbegleitprogramm (STUBE) Niedersachsen – Weekend Seminar on Sustainable Waste and Resource Management: Approaches to a Global Challenge in Goslar, Germany.
Being part of the Niedersachsen network through my university made me eligible to participate. The seminar provided a fantastic platform to connect academic insights with practical applications in sustainability. As a student in the Sustainable Renewable Energy Technologies (SuRE) master's program at the University of Oldenburg, the discussions and activities resonated deeply with my academic goals.
Highlights of the seminar included:
- E-waste recycling technologies: Visiting MPM Environment Intelligence GmbH, where CEO Felix Kolbe introduced cutting-edge technologies for recycling electronic waste.
- Expert lectures: An engaging talk by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Daniel Goldmann from TU Clausthal on waste and resource management.
- Interactive discussions: Exploring the political and social aspects of resource management.
- Field trip to Rammelsberg: A guided tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, where I descended 450 meters underground to explore historical mining operations. This unique experience offered a profound perspective on resource use over time.
Adding a personal milestone to this incredible weekend, I experienced snow cover for the first time in my life! Goslar’s stunning, snow-blanketed landscape made the experience all the more memorable.
I am grateful to Andreas Kurschat and the STUBE Niedersachsen team for organizing this impactful seminar, which has inspired me further in my journey toward sustainable energy solutions.
