Theses

Are you interested in writing a thesis in our department?

There are many possible topics for a thesis in the field of Accounting & Corporate Governance. Our research gives you a first impression of the various subject areas. You will usually also find suggestions for current thesis topics in Stud.IP in due time before the application deadline.

In addition to the topics suggested by the chair, you are also welcome to suggest your own topics. The extent to which these topics will be accepted depends on their feasibility, their suitability for a thesis and the availability of sufficient supervision capacity. Your own topic suggestions should be outlined in as much detail as possible in the application form.

In principle, all topics supervised by us should have an empirical quantitative component . For Bachelor students who wish to write their thesis in the field of Accounting & Corporate Governance, successful completion of the module "Financial Accounting" is mandatory. In addition, all compulsory modules required for a Bachelor's thesis should have been completed before the start if the thesis. Master's students should have successfully completed at least one other Master's module offered by the department in addition to the "Advanced Financial Accounting" module.

In principle, it is possible to apply for a Bachelor's or Master's thesis at the Chair of Accounting and Corporate Governance by the following deadlines:

  • January 15 for theses to be taken up in the following summer semester
  • July 15 for theses to be accepted in the following winter semester

We will seek to send you an acceptance or rejection letter within two weeks of the application deadline. To apply, it is sufficient to indicate your topic preferences and outline your initial thoughts on possible problems, methodology and relevance of the topic (see application form). If you are accepted, the final topic will be agreed individually with the supervisor at a later date. The application must be submitted by email (accounting@uol.de) together with the following documents:

Please note: Our supervision capacities are limited. If the number of applications exceeds our capacity, the available slots will be allocated on the basis of topic preference and quality, performance in accounting courses and, in the case of Master theses, an existing specialization in accounting (or AFT).

Please note our general information on writing theses at the Chair of Accounting & Corporate Governance.

Note: Please also note the information on the collection of personal data (Art. 13 GDPR) when applying for supervision in the Accounting & Corporate Governance department.
