Business simulation
With the computer-aided business simulation TOPSIM "Mastering Business Operations" , you experience the cross-linked interrelationships of a company directly and in a protected environment. This includes in particular the conflicts of objectives that arise in the management of a company. You will learn how to use business management methods and information tools and how to make decisions under time pressure in the role of company management. In doing so, you experience the typical conflicts of objectives and learn how to deal with uncertainty when making decisions. In order to achieve the company's goals, strategies must be selected and implemented, the effects of decisions assessed and the dynamic competitive environment taken into account. The competition between the groups creates an exciting, dynamic and interactive learning experience that not only trains your economically linked thinking and behaviour, but also important soft skills such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.
We offer the business simulation during the semester and as a block seminar during the semester holidays. The number of participants is limited to 25. Registration takes place via Stud.IP (module code: pb282).
Procedure of the business game
After the introduction to the game, the participants take on the management of a company. This involves constantly analysing their own company, the competition and the economic situation, and acting accordingly. Depending on the setting, decisions have to be made as a team - often under time pressure. At the end of each period, there is an evaluation together with the seminar leader before the participants can start the next period. They go through the individual phases several times and experience typical conflicts of objectives in company management at first hand.
You can find detailed information on the course of the business game in Stud.IP or in the participant handbook.
Requirements and recognition of credits
The business simulation TOPSIM "Mastering Business Operations" can be used as a professionalisation module in the Bachelor's degree programmes business studies and business studies with a focus on law. As basic knowledge of business administration is already helpful for successful participation, we recommend attending from the 3rd semester onwards unless you have already completed a commercial apprenticeship or have otherwise gained knowledge in the field of business management.
Active participation (i.e. full attendance during the simulation) and an examination in individual or group work (short test, short presentation, seminar paper) are required for successful participation. Successful participation is worth 6 CP. In the week before the start of the game, you should expect to spend around 4 hours preparing for the game using the manual. Further details on the programme will follow in the course of the seminar.
