18 February 2004: First lecture at the Children's University

The first "KinderUni Oldenburg" started on 18 February 2004 with a lecture by hearing researcher Prof. Dr Birger Kollmeier.

There were a total of 100 such events at the KinderUni, which ran until 2019. The aim was to get schoolchildren interested in science and give them a first insight into the University of Oldenburg.

Incidentally, Kollmeier's first lecture focussed on the "Little Man in the Ear" and could have sold out seven times over. The lecturers also answered questions such as: "Where is up and where is down in space?", "What makes the cake batter rise and the lemonade bubble?" or "Right or wrong? How we deal with nature." To mark the university's 50th anniversary and after a coronavirus break, there was once again a special programme for young students in 2024. Lectures, music and numerous hands-on activities awaited the participants.
