Auditorium Centre A 14 was opened on 27 April 1998.

Lecture Theatre Centre A 14 is the Audimax and, alongside the tower with the dove of peace, the landmark of the University of Oldenburg. From the first semester welcome to lectures, seminars and special events: An important part of studying and working at the university takes place here.

The opening in April 1998 was a real milestone in the still young history of the university. This was also reflected in the guest list - the then Federal Research Minister Dr Jürgen Rüttgers and Lower Saxony's Science Minister Thomas Oppermann were among those who attended the inauguration. The new lecture hall centre was the talk of the town: the Lord Mayor at the time, Dr Jürgen Poeschel, called it a "gem of urban architecture", while Oppermann spoke of "one of the most beautiful and functional university buildings in Germany". The University President at the time, Prof Dr Michael Daxner, was delighted that with the A 14, the university could finally offer the study conditions that had been desired since its foundation. The architect Prof Dr Meinhard von Gerkan also had his say and commented on the unusual brightness in the building complex: "Nothing is more important for people's well-being than daylight". Especially in rainy Oldenburg, we would like to add at this point.

A student caused a minor scandal during the ceremony, which angered some guests and amused others. Using a megaphone, he not only criticised the education policy of the time, but also the smoking in the foyer of the lecture hall centre. Today, he could at least no longer be bothered by the latter: Since 2007, smoking in the university has been banned for good.
