The university website went online in March 1995.
It has long been the case that anyone who wants to find out about the University of Oldenburg first looks at our website. In an article in the campus newspaper UNI-INFO from December 1995, the then brand new website was described as an information service in the "World Wide Web (WWW), an information system in the worldwide computer network Internet". Terms such as "homepage" and "surfing" were also explained. These were the beginnings of the Internet. Incidentally, the then Internet Coordinator Volker Burggräf is still responsible for the central administration and further development of the website today (2025). The university homepage and its subpages are currently accessed around five million times a year.
