The Department of Biology Education maintains a close co-operation with schools in South Africa. Following on from this, it is possible for biology teacher training students to complete their specialised internship or Master's thesis in Cape Town or Port Elizabeth. In Cape Town, there are co-operations with the German International School Cape Town (dsk.co.za) and Muizenberg High School (muizenberghigh.co.za). While the German School (DSK) is located in the heart of Cape Town and is situated directly under Table Mountain, Muizenberg High School is located in False Bay, which is known for its attractive water sports. Both schools are located in safe neighbourhoods in Cape Town.
Muizenberg High School:
Only 20 km from the centre of Cape Town, Muizenberg High School offers very good school facilities, dedicated teaching staff who look forward to and are happy to supervise the German student teachers. The school is attended by an interesting student body, which is primarily made up of black pupils. The school focuses on drama, theatre, pottery and other craft-based activities. The science programme is well equipped. Pupils can enter high school from Grade 6 and complete their matric after 12 years. Muizenberg is a safe place, which is particularly known for its proximity to the mountains and its location directly by the sea. The school accepts around 10 German pupils each year, which makes it an attractive starting point for students. The teaching staff look forward to an exchange with prospective teachers from the University of Oldenburg! There is reasonably priced accommodation right next to the school, which the school is happy to organise. This saves long journeys. Muizenberg is known for its location on False Bay, which offers excellent surfing opportunities.

German International School Cape Town:
The German International School Cape Town, located directly under Table Mountain, offers very good school facilities and a central connection to the centre of Cape Town. The German School offers an English and a German language programme. The German branch is based on the Baden-Württemberg curriculum, while the English branch is based on the South African curriculum. All pupils have German and English in common. The school is characterised by its international orientation, its unparalleled range of study groups and its great affinity for sport. In addition, the science rooms in particular are excellently equipped. Applications for work experience should be made in good time, as demand is high.

We also cooperate with the Primary Science Programme Institute. This organisation is aimed at all "First Time Teachers" who work in disadvantaged schools. We support the programme through qualitative accompanying research of the teacher training courses offered and at the same time gain valuable insights into dealing with heterogeneity in the classroom through the accompanying school visits. You are welcome to write your Master's thesis at this Institute and accompany the young teachers in the classroom.
