Dear visitors to the sensory school,
It is with a heavy heart that we have to close our sensory school due to staff shortages. We have handed over the didactic and methodological concept as well as the materials to Sachunterricht, who thankfully want to continue working on the topic as part of their emerging school laboratory. However, the Sachunterricht school lab is aimed exclusively at primary school pupils. Unfortunately, it is not yet known when this laboratory will open. We would like to thank you for your many years of loyalty and excellent cooperation and remain sincerely yours, the Sinnesschule team!

"Making the senses tangible" is the motto under which the Oldenburg Sensory School was opened in May 2010 by the Biology Didactics working group at the University of Oldenburg.
Various interactive exhibits and experiments for independent exploration of the human senses are presented in a 100 square metre room. Didactically prepared programmes tailored to the respective learning group are aimed at pupils in preschools and primary schools, special schools, vocational schools and secondary schools in the lower secondary level. Great emphasis is placed on independent research and discovery by children and young people. The exhibits and experiments thus support the acquisition of skills by pupils in line with the curricular requirements of the state of Lower Saxony.
The sensory school serves as a teaching and learning laboratory for biology students studying for a Master of Education. The prospective teachers gain practical experience in the implementation of programmes and write scientific theses, e.g. on the learning effectiveness of certain exhibits.
Teaching materials for teachers for targeted preparation and follow-up of the sensory school visit have been published in Oldenburg forms. These and other materials are available on request.

On 16 February 2013, the sensory school opened its doors and invited young and old to explore the world of the human senses using experiments and models.
To the delight of all employees, around 150 people took up this offer and were interested in exploring questions such as: "Can we smell colours?" or "Can sound be made visible?"
