Prof. Dr Matthias Wendland, LL.M. (Harvard), is Professor of Civil Law and the Law of Digital Transformation and heads the Master’s programme in Information Law. He served as the University Ombudsman and was a member of the ‘Scientific Centre for Methods of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science’. His studies in Berlin and Leuven were followed by academic posts at Harvard Law School and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. After passing the State Examinations and graduating from Harvard, he obtained his PhD and habilitation at LMU Munich. Before being appointed to Oldenburg, he taught and conducted research in Heidelberg, Freiburg and Graz. The multi-award-winning scholar conducts interdisciplinary research with an international network, focusing on key issues in the law of artificial intelligence, agent-based systems and quantum technologies. He heads the ‘Digital Transformation Lab’, which focuses on the development of operational AI systems and trustworthy AI.
